Old Town Beach Committee

The Old Town Bach Committee was appointed by the Select Board on December 29, 2014 and was charged with the design, implementation, and ongoing oversight of a small waterfront park to be created at the site of the former town beach on Randall Road.

The town beach had not been maintained since the opening of Lake Wyola State Park on Lakeview Road in the late 1990s.  To see how it looked in 2002, click here.  Much of the area was overgrown with brush by 2014.

The Old Town Beach is well sited for recreation as it is adjacent to the boat launch, parking, restroom, and conservation trails. The proposed park will consist of minor landscaping, plantings, and a small gazebo — and will be the home of the Library's kayak loan program.

At the 2015 Annual Town Meeting, the town approved a $5,000 Community Preservation Grant for the project, and the committee asked the voters to name the park after the late Bill Elliott, who devoted many years to the protection of Lake Wyola.

The park is now called William G. Elliott Waterfront Park (and the committee was re-named the Elliott Park Committee).
