Welcome to the Lake Wyola Boating and Safety Review Committee
The Lake Wyola Boating and Safety Review Committee, established at the 7/17/24 meeting of the Selectboard, is dedicated to enhancing safety and recreational enjoyment at Lake Wyola. The nine-member Review Committee was tasked with identifying specific actions that can be implemented by the Town, the Lake Wyola Association (LWA), private citizens, and the local Shutesbury Police Department to assess and improve safety concerns with lake usage by our local and extended communities. The Selectboard's charge to the Review Committee can be read here.
Over the past decade, Lake Wyola has become a popular destination for paddle-related sports (standup paddle boards, kayaks, row boats, and canoes), swimmers, fishermen, and boaters alike, particularly following the opening of the state park beach. Our committee has aimed to engage with the community, educate on existing bylaws, and promote safe recreational practices to promote the continued safety and enjoyment of this valuable public resource.
At the 2025 Annual town Meeting, we presented signage with updated bylaw and educational information (see below) to be provided to the Lake Wyola Association to post at their beaches and to the Town to be installed at the Boat Ramp:
