The Recreation Committee develops recreational activities designed to build community and enrich the quality of life in Shutesbury. The committee sponsors and supports recreational experiences and related educational programming for all age groups.
We have two more events scheduled for Spring 2023. All activities are free of charge for Shutesbury Residents.
Saturday, May 27, from 10-12 is a return visit to Ancient Pony Farms, led by Zoe Weizenbaum, the Farm Manager. This event is co-sponsored with the library. The visit will start with the greenhouse and the field, providing us an opportunity to learn more about their sustainable agriculture practices. Last year the highlight for children (and many adults) was meeting the baby goats!

The return of Family Field Day!!!
Saturday, June 17, from 10-12 we will sponsor what we hope will become an annual Family Field Day.
The Recreation Committee is pleased to partner with the Shutesbury Elementary School in holding a Family Field Day on June 17 at the School from 10 - noon. Steven Carra, the Physical Education Teacher, has enthusiastically offered his help with ideas and equipment. Among the activities will be jumping, running, relay, and throwing events. While the activities will be primarily for elementary aged children and their families, we encourage everyone to come to cheer on the participants! There will be refreshments, and of course, awards.
In case of inclement weather please check your emails for an announcement from the Recreation Committee. There will not be a rain date.
All children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Are you interested in being a member of the Recreation Committee?
The Recreation Committee is looking for three new members, and would especially benefit from members interested in bringing new ideas and energy to three areas:
First, supporting and adding to programs for children and their families - such as our annual Family Field Day.
Second, working on the Community Garden, which has approval to be sited near the new library. In addition to helping establish the garden, this work will include developing workshops on practices, such as sustainable farming techniques, that people can use as they plan their gardens.
Finally, a group of pickleball enthusiasts have been playing twice a week at the Elementary school and the committee is looking for ways to support their efforts to expand access.
If you're interested, or would like more information, please send an email to Recreation@Shutesbury.com
