Upcoming Events:
Sunday, June 30. The Recreation Committee is pleased to be a sponsor of Shutesbury Open Studios. Organized by Joan Green, the tour will give visitors an opportunity to visit local studios, talk to the artists, and become familiar with their work. It will provide a wonderful celebration of our local artists.
The Night Sky: The Recreation Committee in collaboration with the library is offering two evenings of star gazing led by Tom Schieding.
TBD. We are hoping to offer a bird watching event in collaboration with the library. An announcement will be sent as soon as it is confirmed.
TBD. The Recreation Committee in collaboration with the Open Space Committee is sponsoring two walks at Ames Pond. This property, bequeathed to the Kestrel Land Trust by Julian Janowitz, is an extraordinary landscape of wetlands and forest. The first walk, led by Graeme Sephton, was a great success. Graeme shared his knowledge about the trails and the history and flora and fauna of the area. The Kestrel Land Trust is currently repairing and replacing the boardwalks. Our second walk will return to Ames Pond when that work is done, anticipated for June.
The Recreation Committee purpose:
The Recreation Committee develops recreational activities designed to build community and enrich the quality of life in Shutesbury. The Committee sponsors and supports recreational experiences and related educational programming for all age groups.
Are you interested in becoming a member of the Recreation Committee?
The Recreation Committee is looking for new members, and would especially benefit from members interested in bringing new ideas about how we can support and add to programs for children and their families. Currently the Recreation Committee sponsors an annual Family Field Day and was a co-sponsor of the kite flying event on the Town Common.
