Shutesbury Board of Selectmen Meeting Minutes May 22, 2008 Present: Chairman Rebecca Torres, and Ralph Armstrong. Also present: Selectman-Elect Al Springer, Town Administrator David Dann and Administrative Secretary Leslie Bracebridge, recording. Meeting opened at 7:05 PM Subjects Discussed 1. Application for Volunteer Fire Assistance – for call or volunteer departments: a. For fire prevention, control, and suppression of fires in rural areas; to fund a backpack leaf blower, combination gas/oil containers and additional 1 inch nozzles. 2. May 21, 2008 Board of Health Public Hearing reviewed: a. Legal issues surrounding the Board of Health regulations: i. No state agency will help the towns in court challenges. ii. Chapter III Section 31 – states the regulation gets filed with D.E.P. iii. The town has to provide expert testimony to the court challenge. iv. The decision is made by the Board of Health, not the Board of Selectmen. 3. FEMA grant: Chairwoman Torres signed the amended version in the amount of $5634.82 as previously voted. 4. David will speak with the C&A Construction Co. about returning the large stone slab and saving other large flat stones found in the worksite for the town. 5. 4-day work week for the Highway Department: Benefits: Vacation/sick/holidays are treated as 10 hours (all paid at 10 hours/day.) Start: 1st Monday in May. End: Last Friday in October. Votes Taken 1. Selectmen unanimously voted to sign a grant application in the amount of $705.00 with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Bureau of Forest Fire Control and Forestry. 2. Selectmen unanimously voted to authorize the Highway Department to go to a 4-day work week starting the first Monday in May and ending the last Friday in October.
