E-Mail Communication Between Town Officials
In the Friday, August 9, 2002 telephone conversation that David and I had with Cynthia Pepin, of the Northwestern District Attorney's office, Cynthia confirmed that all email messages between department heads and the town administrator and/or the members of their committees should also be printed so that there is a hard copy to supplement records and/or department minutes.
As town clerk, I am requesting in advance that I receive copies of those emails for posting and filing. In that way citizens/taxpayers can have ready access to the decision making actions of their community. The simplest way to make this happen is to add townclerk -at- shutesbury.org to all of your messages and I will print, post and file the messages. Cynthia emphasized that the ideal is to communicate in open meetings and not use email as the norm for communications.
At first this will seem somewhat intrusive, but I fully believe it will soon become as second nature as the open meeting itself! I thank you in advance for complying with the Open Meeting Law.
Sincerely,
Leslie Bracebridge
Town Clerk
